Azerbaijani historians have combined their efforts to distort all the historical facts about Armenia for the purpose of getting Nagorno-Karabakh back, Doctor of History, Professor Babken Harutynyan told journalists Feb. 21.

The Armenian side does not respond to most of the distortions. However, when one side repeatedly distorts historical facts, while the other is silent, the international community may "take everything its face value." "Europeans, who do not know the history of Armenian people, will not go deep into the situation. They will think the Armenian side has nothing to answer," professor Harutyunyan said.

The level of Armenian propaganda leaves to be desired. "Yes, some work is being done. But it is not enough. Government assistance is needed," Professor Harutyunyan said.

The Diaspora can help as well, but the process needs coordinating. The Ministry of Diaspora should take the initiative.

"Azerbaijan`s propaganda does not influence the world scientific community. However, the money offered to foreign scholars, most of whom are not of Turkic descent, produces `positive` results," Harutyunyan said.

"Hired foreign historians do not care they are distorting historical facts," Harutyunyan said. He pointed out that 15 to 20 works distorting Armenian  history are published in Moscow alone every year.
