Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) announced the end of the unilateral ceasefire declared on August 13, 2010.

The PKK leaders note the reason is Justice and Development party’s negative politics against Kurdish people, the Kurdish Firat news agency reported.

“Our guerrilla units will follow an active-defense strategy,” says the statement issued by PKK leaders.

For 30 years PKK has been fighting for the rights of Kurds in Turkey. About 40,000 people, including PKK soldiers, Turkish servicemen and peaceful population, were killed in the struggle.

They demand education in Kurdish language, creation of Kurdish autonomy in the east of Turkey.
