The March 1 tragedy would not have occurred if those ones that had rigged the 2003 presidential elections had been punished, Stepan Demirchyan, Chairman of the People`s Party of Armenia, stated at today`s rally in Yerevan.

According to him, the "the preconditions for the March 1 massacre were created on the night of March 13, 2004," when an opposition rally was dispersed. No one was punished then, and "a greater tragedy occurred" four years later.

Aram Sargsyan, Political Council Chairman, Republic Party, accused the authorities of authoritarianism, stating that this form of government has failed to prove its worth. Evidence thereof is the latest developments in the Arab world, Sargsyan said. He warned that the Armenian authorities may share the Libyan leader`s fate.

Armenian News-NEWS.am reminds readers that the Opposition led by Chairman of the Armenian National Congress (ANC) Levon Ter-Petrosyan held a rally in Yerevan today, March 1.
