YEREVAN. - It is yet unclear whether WikiLeaks document on Azerbaijan and Israel is true, expert in Turkic studies Vardan Voskanyan told Armenian News-NEWS.am, referring to certain security agreements between the two countries.

“However, if the information is true, it affects directly two sides’ interests. Of course, Yerevan should be concerned over any additional armament of the country, holding an aggressive stance on Armenia,” Voskanyan stressed.

Meanwhile, he noted that Armenia has its strategic partners and the Armenian side is working to keep the balance in arms.

“Besides, there is a moral aspect. The fates of the Jewish and Armenian people are alike in many respects. Although each state is pursuing its own geopolitical goals, moral still has weight,” Voskanyan emphasized.

According to the WikiLeaks publication, on February 16, 2007 Israel’s Ambassador to Azerbaijan Arthur Lenk met with U.S. Ambassador to Azerbaijan Anne Derse, saying Israel and Azerbaijan signed two secret security agreements, but did not disclose other details. Lenk briefed Derse on a meeting between the Israel’s foreign minister and Azerbaijan’s president at the World Economic Forum in Davos.
