Turkish State Minister and Chief EU negotiator Egemen Bagis visited Christ The King Armenian church in Kadikoy, Istanbul.

The Turkish minister congratulated the president of the board of the church foundation on Easter, adding they expect the Armenian clergymen will pray for June 12 parliamentary elections in Turkey, Hurriyet daily reports. Bagis recalled recent positive changes in Turkey, stressing return of property to national minorities. He also spoke of peace in the country, quoting Hrant Dink.

The board president Shapouh Cholakyan stressed he lived in different periods and reminded bloody events in 1955 (massacres of Armenians and Greeks on September 6-7 in Istanbul). “The situation has improved today,” he noted.
