YEREVAN. – Military rhetoric on Karabakh conflict resolution is unacceptable, European Commissioner for Enlargement and European Neighborhood Policy Stefan Fule told a press conference in Yerevan today.

The commissioner stated that “neighborhood” will not be ensured unless the conflict is resolved peacefully based on the principles of international law. In this regard, he recalled three principles: non-use of force, territorial integrity and people’s right to self-determination.

According to him, the EU will continue to contribute to the efforts of OSCE Minsk Group. He noted that the EU is deeply concerned over skirmishes in the line of contact in Karabakh conflict zone and statements on possible use of force as an option for Karabakh conflict resolution.

Fule stressed all the parties should understand that a conflict settlement by military means is unacceptable. “It is important that sides clarify the rhetoric,” EU Commissioner emphasized. According to him, some progress has been observed in negotiation process over the Karabakh conflict, the parties are moving forward and it is important that it is reflected in the rhetoric.

“Warlike statements undermine progress in the conflict resolution,” Fule stressed.
