YEREVAN. - The health state of the world champion in weightlifting Nazik Avdalyan is normal, Spokeswoman of Armenian Health Minister Shushan Hunanyan told Armenian News-NEWS.am.

According to her, Nazik Avdalyan feels good and doctors did everything possible for her to return to sport. Doctors say it is still early to speak of her return to sport. However, they will make conclusions when she is recovered.

As Armenian News-NEWS.am reported earlier, Nazik Avdalyan had undergone a spinal fixation (vertebral) surgery on Thursday.

She had a car accident in Armenia, on Gyumri-Vanadzor highway, near Jajur village on Tuesday. She was taken to Gyulbenkyan hospital in Gyumri. According to preliminary diagnoses, Nazik Avdalyan suffered a spinal fracture and received an injury of bone marrow.

Avdalyan was transferred to Erebuni medical centre in Yerevan on Wednesday. Harutyun Mangoyan, the head of the intensive care department informed Armenian News-NEWS.am that Avdalyan’s health condition is stable. Her pulse and breathing is normal. The athlete was hospitalized with diagnosis of combined spinal and chest trauma. Mangoyan did not specify where the surgery will take place, adding “Erebuni” medical centre has all necessary equipment at its disposal for her surgery.

Health Minister of Armenia Harutyun Kushkyan and President of Olympic Committee of Armenia Gagik Tsarukyan visited the world champion.

As reported earlier, on January 3, 2011 Nazik Avdalyan had another car accident in Artik town. Her Mercedes collided with a barrier near a military unit. The champion was not injured at that time.
