YEREVAN. Foreign Minister of Armenia Edward Nalbandian met with U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton in Washington on Thursday.

U.S. Secretary of State welcomed the Armenian minister and stressed that there is a close friendship and partnership between the U.S. and Armenia.

“We held numerous meetings with Minister Nalbandian and I am happy to receive him once again in the State Department. There is many-faceted relationship between the U.S. and Armenia which begins from policy and reaches personal relationships. We are discussing issues of great significance and I expect that we will continue this important dialogue,” Clinton said, the press service of Armenian foreign Office informed Armenian News-NEWS.am.

In his turn, Nalbandian thanked Washington for invitation: “The frequent meetings indicate the commitment to further deepen and strengthen the Armenian-U.S. relations. In recent years, joint efforts have contributed to raising the bilateral cooperation to a qualitatively new level.”

The diplomats discussed a wide range of issues on bilateral relations and opportunities for development of economic cooperation, as well as implementation of democratic reforms in Armenia and regional issues.

The sides also exchanged views on the Karabakh conflict. Clinton stressed that the U.S. as a co-chairing country of the OSCE Minsk Group will continue to contribute fully to the achievement of agreement between the parties to the Karabakh conflict. “The resolution of Karabakh conflict is possible merely by peaceful means,” Clinton emphasized.
