YEREVAN. – NATO Secretary General sees no role of alliance in Karabakh conflict resolution, Polish Ambassador to Armenia Zdzislaw Raczynsky told a press conference on Monday, commenting on the question whether NATO peacekeeping forces may participate in the Karabakh peace process.

According to the diplomat, this is an ethnic-regional process and its solution depends on the two neighboring countries’ will. “Other states may only act as a mediator,” Raczynsky noted.

The Ambassador also expressed hope that Armenia and Azerbaijan will once find a compromising solution to the conflict.

“The presence of peacekeeping forces will be needed only when Armenia and Azerbaijan sign an agreement. However, Iran and Russia speak against deployment of peacekeeping forces.  Meanwhile, I can say that other forces, in particular the EU peacekeepers, may carry out the mission,” he stressed.

The ambassador also forecasted NATO’s involvement in the regional processes, solely in terms of technical support, particularly mine clearing and use of innovations
