“Dr. Death” Jack Kevorkian, Armenian by origin, passed away on Friday in a Michegan hospital at the age of 83, The New York Times reports.

Earlier in May Kevorkian was taken to William Beaumont hospital of Detroit area, Michigan.

Jack Kevorkian was a staunch supporter of euthanasia and stood for its legalization. He is said to have helped at least 130 terminally ill people end their lives from 1990 to 1998.

Kevorkian was charged in 1990 when law-enforcement agencies obtained a tape of 52-year-old Thomas Youk’s suicide. Kevorkian served 8 years in prison and was released in 2007.

A 90- minute “Kevorkian” documentary about the life and career of Jack Kevorkian, better known as “Dr. Death” was aired on American HBO television network in 2010.

Earlier the film “You don’t know Jack” starring Al Pacino as Jack Kevorkian was shot.
