German doctors consider that bean sprouts but not cucumbers were cause of an outbreak of E. coli deadly infection.

These are the results of preliminary investigation, said the representative of German government. Details will be made public during a press conference in the near future, the Russian RBK reports.

At least 22 people died and 2000 fell ill with E. coli poisoning.

Last week the World Health Organization (WHO) said Escherichia coli (E. coli), which causes deadly enteric infection, is a completely new strain of the bacteria.

Fatal cases caused by outbreak of E. coli bacteria contained in Spanish cucumbers were registered in Germany. Armenia has imposed ban on imports of potentially dangerous Spanish food products.
