The OSCE mediators expect that the parties will show constructive approach during the meeting in Kazan, Russian Co-Chair Igor Popov told journalists in Stepanakert after meeting with Karabakh President Bako Sahakyan.

Speaking about forthcoming meeting of Armenian and Azerbaijani FMs, the mediators noted the focus of the meeting will be discussion of final wordings which will be proposed at the next summit in Kazan.

Asked about the Basic Principles, Co-Chair Popov said they are constantly working on the principles.

“I would not adhere to the term ‘reviewed Madrid Principles’. Suggestions and adjustments are made during each meeting. To date, there is a draft project. Number of issues should be finalized. The ministers will be engaged in finalizing them and the work on final variant, if it is agreed, will be probably completed in Kazan,” Popov said.

French Co-Chair Bernard Fassier added that the final variant of the Madrid Principles is that discussed in Sochi three months ago. However, there are still items that should be finalized.

The meeting between Armenian, Russian and Azerbaijani Presidents in Kazan is scheduled for late June.
