Before commenting on the results of Kazan meeting one should wait for details of the talks received through diplomatic channels, a diplomatic source in Washington told Azerbaijani Turan agency.

The source noted that disappointing is the fact that no agreement was signed at the meeting.

After over three-hour discussion in the Russian city of Kazan, the sides failed to agree on Basic Principles of Nagorno-Karabakh conflict settlement.

The document, which was discussed in Kazan, is a result of an important period of joint work of the parties and international negotiators. The Russian Foreign Ministry said it was a solid foundation for further advancement and preparation for the comprehensive peace agreement.

In a statement issued after the meeting the presidents noted that they reached “the achievement of mutual understanding on a number of issues.”

“Solution of these issues contributes to creating conditions for the approval of the basic principles,” reads the presidents’ statement.

The experts say summit may not be called a failure as the statement indicates “reaching mutual understanding”. However, the breakthrough was not achieved, despite calls of the leaders of Russia, U.S. and France.
