TBILISI. - Armenian News-NEWS.am presents an excerpt from the interview of Armenia’s Diaspora Minister Hranush Hakobyan to Georgian Samskhretis Karibje newspaper.

What are the objectives of Armenia’s Diaspora Ministry?

Though the ministry is very young, it implemented many programs that have already become a tradition. I want to emphasize “Our renowned people” program, which gives young people an opportunity to get acquainted with their life and work. “Come home” program and “Armenians today” are also of great importance.

How does the ministry cooperate with ethnic Armenians living in Georgia?

We should go on maintaining friendly relations between Armenia and Georgia. The ethnic Armenians in Akhalkalaki are united. Armenia’s Diaspora Ministry had an active participation in the celebrations of the Days of Jivan in Javakhk. We always cooperate with Georgia as our programs are implemented more easily there.

What role does the ministry play in Armenian-Georgian relations?

The Diaspora Ministry does not interfere in Armenia-Georgia relations. Foreign Ministries of the two states are engaged in the issue.

What programs does the ministry implement in Javakhk?

First, we launched the program on computerization of schools, visits to cultural circles in Javakhk and providing them with Armenian national attributes. We help non-governmental organizations, newspapers and television.

Javakheti is always in the focus of our attention. With respect to educational programs, we try to involve Armenians in them. We do not consider Javakhk as diaspora and tell the Armenians from the diaspora about the socio-economic problems and difficulties of Javakheti through the website “Armenians today.” The Diaspora Ministry acts as an e-mediator in an attempt to present both positive and negative sides.

Have you encountered any obstacles in implementing programs in Georgia?

We must respect and protect the Georgian legislation and carry out the Armenian programs without violating Georgian laws. We appeal to Javakhk’s leadership if problems occur. In addition, we maintain close ties with Armenian MP Hamlet Movsesyan.
