YEREVAN. - Azerbaijani president’s words that negotiations on Karabakh conflict should be continued, carry positive element, said the head of Armenian Office of ARF Dashnaktsutyun Giro Manoyan to Armenian News-NEWS.am, commenting on the outcomes of Russian and Azerbaijani presidents’ meeting on August 9 in Sochi.

According to him, there is no reason for a negative assessment of the results.

Manoyan mentioned that there was something strange in the speech of Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev.

"Previously they always spoke about resolution of Karabakh conflict on the basis of international law but now Aliyev said that the settlement must be based on international law and common sense. Common sense is certainly good but it is too wide concept. We can presume that a settlement based solely on international law does not suit Aliyev," said Manoyan. "All in all this is a small step in favor of negotiations and prevention of war. But globally, Azerbaijan’s position has not changed and will not change in the near future – that is what we need to convey to the international community. The world must understand that it should recognize independence of Nagorno-Karabakh."
