Presidents of Russia and Azerbaijan Dmitry Medvedev and Ilham Aliyev discussed on Tuesday the issues related to Karabakh peace process unsolved during the Sochi trilateral meeting, Azerbaijani MP Mubariz Gurbanli told the website of Azerbaijani ruling party.

“President Ilham Aliyev reiterated Azerbaijan’s readiness to solve the conflict based on norms of the international law and within the framework of Azerbaijan’s territorial integrity. Azerbaijan is interested in resolution of the conflict more than others. Baku opposes preserving the status quo,” he said.

According to him, during all meetings Aliyev openly presents “Azerbaijan’s concept on the Karabakh conflict which is based on the international law”.

“Principles and norms of international law highlight the territorial integrity and sovereignty. The main requirement which Azerbaijan puts forward during the talks is its territorial integrity and sovereignty. The Kazan meeting showed that the Armenian diplomacy is actually driven into a corner. Armenians have nothing to respond to fair and unbiased position of our state.

In any case, there is occupation of Azerbaijani lands by Armenia, and it is impossible to deny. The absence of any result during the Kazan meeting is due to the unconstructive position of Armenia,” the MP said.

As to Armenia, Gurbanli is confident that “Armenia’s economy is completely destroyed” and attempts are made “to save” the country.

“Under these circumstances, steps are taken to involve Armenia in the international projects and save it through solving the conflict. Therefore, this activeness is obvious. I believe after the Sochi meeting, Russian President will meet with Armenian leader. Steps will be taken to hold the next trilateral meeting to settle Armenian-Azerbaijani Karabakh conflict,” he said, Trend reported.
