ANKARA. - Turkish Ministry of Health started Effect of Mental Health program, covering 2011-2013.

According to Turkish Akşam daily, one of the important points of the program is that European experience in the field of mental health will be applied in Turkey.

The program marks that 18% of Turkey’s population are mentally ill. Out of 6 cases of mental illness, only one gets medical treatment.

There are only 2.2 psychiatrists for each 100 thousand inhabitants of Turkey, whereas in European countries the figure is 12.9 for 100 thousand people.
