GLENDALE. - The Armenian National Committee – Western Region (ANC-WR) has announced that Allen Yekikian and Tony Adam will serve as panelists in the ANC Grassroots workshop on activism through convergent and social media. The workshop is part of the ANC Grassroots weekend that will take place from Friday, November 25 to Sunday, November 27, 2011, at the Sheraton Universal Hotel.

Capitalizing on the proliferation of convergent and social media outlets – such as Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr, Google+, and the online portals for major media organizations – is integral to the Armenian Cause. Media coverage is a vital part of the Armenian Cause, and providing the media with facts, resources and accurate information is crucial to preserving the historical record and countering genocide denial.

Tony Adam is currently the Director of Online Marketing at Myspacewhere he heads search engine optimization (SEO), Social Media, and Paid Traffic and Viral Content for the Audience Marketing division. Adam is also the founder and principal of Visible Factors, Startup Advisor for companies like Ranker and Family Finds. He writes extensively about online marketing, and has participated in many online marketing conferences such as PubCon and SXSW Interactive. He began working in technology in 2000, after completing his undergraduate education in Computer Science at Mt. Sierra College.

Allen Yekikian is a seasoned multi-platform media professional, specializing in online communications, new media and Internet technologies. Yekikian is currently the Chief Technology Officer (CTO) for Operation HOPE, which provides resources and services to economically underserved communities. As CTO, Yekikian leverages social networks, Web sites, email marketing and other strategic outreach practices to disseminate and amplify the organization’s message and mission. Yekikian has extensive experience in using technology and marketing to organize communities and to improve media outreach. He has worked as the Assistant Editor and Online Media Director at Asbarez News, as well as Haytoug. During his tenure at Asbarez, the publication’s site grew from 15,000 to 130,000 visits per month. The site has now received more than one million visits since its launch. Yekikian is a graduate of UCLA, and has degrees in history and Armenian Studies.

The panelists will discuss how activists can utilize today’s multi-platform media – where print and broadcast forms have converged online – to promote the Armenian Cause to a wider audience.

The three-day ANC Grassroots program is the first in a groundbreaking series of workshops, conferences and seminars that will educate the community about civic leadership arising from grassroots efforts.
