YEREVAN. – Armenia’s Ministry of Justice confirmed the information that 32 Iranian citizens, who were convicted in Armenia, will soon be sent to Iran to serve their sentences, Armenian Prison Committee’s Head of Public Relations Department Gor Ghlechyan told Armenian News-NEWS.am.
In his words, ninety percent of the Iranian offenders were serving their sentence in Armenia for drug-related crimes.
As Iranian media reported on Tuesday, with efforts by the Iranian Embassy in Armenia, it was decided that 32 convicts will be transferred to Iran to serve their remaining sentences. It was noted that this is a common practice, as offenders were already transferred twice this year alone. Armenia handed over 24 Iranian prisoners to Iran, in February, and 30 prisoners, in September.
