YEREVAN. – October 21 is the deadline for Armenia’s Metsamor Nuclear Power Plant’s management to resolve the issue of its 158 employees who had submitted resignations. And as of October 22, 158 people might no longer have to come to work, Haykakan Zhamanak daily writes.

“The Plant’s employees had submitted their resignations on September 20, demanding a raise in their salaries, Pursuant to the Labor Code, the work contract is considered dissolved one month after the resignation is submitted. According to our information, the State Regulatory Committee for Nuclear Safety internally warned the Plant’s management that, if the salary issue is not resolved, the nuclear plant’s reoperation could be prohibited on the grounds of lack of necessary specialists. The Plant’s General Director Gagik Markosyan told the paper there is nothing new on the resolution of this situation. He denied the news that the Plant would not re-operate, and said the activities are such that the Plant could operate ahead of schedule. The Plant’s planned reoperation is scheduled for October 27,” Haykakan Zhamanak writes.
