ISTANBUL. – After restoration, the Hagia Sophia Church in Iznik (historical Nicea), Turkey, opened as a mosque.

After restoration, the Church, which previously was functioning as a museum, opened as a mosque where, on the Muslim Feast of the Sacrifice, a Muslim ritual of worship was performed for the first time, Hurriyet daily of Turkey reported.

Frescoes of the Holy Virgin Mary and the Apostles are still preserved on Church’s walls. 

It was informed earlier that after restoration the Church would function as a museum.
