The OSCE Minsk Group did what it was supposed to do - stop the bloodshed. However, it failed to do something more, said leading analyst of the St. Petersburg center for Middle East studies Alexander Sotnichenko.

“Now we can say that the OSCE MG is in fact engaged in freezing of the conflict, not eager to reach further resolution. This is conditioned by the fact that certain world powers, for example, the EU, also do not want any intensification in the Southern Caucasus. I believe that the Karabakh conflict, as well as problems of the Caucasus on the whole, should be transferred to the regional framework, that is, first and foremost for consideration of Turkey and Russia,” he said in an interview with 1news.az.

The expert considers that other mediators France and U.S. are too far from the region and are more engaged in protecting their interests rather than willing to resolve the conflict.

“These are extra-regional mediators. The problem of Nagorno-Karabakh has never threatened their safety,” he stressed.
