SEVAN. – Armenian state budget allocated AMD 125 million for cleaning works in the areas where waters of Sevan Lake are covering trees, said Armenian Minister of Nature Protection Aram Harutyunyan.

Talking to the journalists during the visit to the cleaned areas, Harutyunyan said works are held in winter as well if the lake is not frozen.

Trees were planted on the shore in the Soviet times when the water level was 1898 meters above sea level. Current level is 1900.18 m and is intended to rise till 1903.5 m.

As a result, about 4000 ha should be cleaned from trees, otherwise the lake will face a process of stagnation. The territory of about 1400 ha has been cleaned so far. Most likely cleaning works will be over in 2020-2021.

The cut trees are used as wood or construction material.
