YEREVAN. – Governor Kovalenko Shahgaldyan of Armenia’s Kotayk Region will spend the New Year in the country, at home, together with his relatives, Shahgaldyan himself told Armenian News-NEWS.am. The New Year’s table cost of the governor’s family exceeds 500,000 drams (approx. US$ 1,294). And in response to the question as to how he is able to spend so much considering his 230,000-dram (approx. $ 595) monthly salary, Kovalenko Shahgaldyan said his family members have businesses.

Governor Ashot Giziryan of Shirak Region will welcome the New Year in capital Yerevan, together with his wife and children. To the question about his New Year’s table cost, he advised to direct that question at his wife. “Armenian families spend their last penny to have the best table; and I do not accept that,” he said.

And governor Ashot Ghahramanyan of Armavir Region told Armenian News-NEWS.am that he will welcome the New Year in Yerevan. He takes part in the New Year preparations as much as it is needed; he gives money [to his family] and purchases. “The New Year is a family festivity, and it is accepted [among my family] that it always be celebrated at home,” he said, adding that his family’s New Year spending is around 200,000 drams (approx. $ 518).
