Representatives of Georgia’s Armenian community, led by Bishop Vazgen Mirzakhanian, Primate of the Georgian Diocese of the Armenian Apostolic Church, paid a visit Thursday to the Patriarchate of the Georgian Orthodox Church, and, on behalf of the devout Armenians, they conveyed New Year and Christmas wishes to Patriarch Ilia II of Georgia.

During the ensuing meeting, Bishop Mirzakhanian expressed his concern over the dismal condition of the churches in capital Tbilisi’s historical Armenian district, specifically the St. Nshan and St. Norashen churches. He asked for Ilia II’s involvement in resolving this problem, proposing that the said churches be returned to the Armenian Diocese, or, until the matter is resolved, the Georgian authorities protect the churches.

In his turn, the Patriarch of Georgia expressed a hope to get involved in the resolution of this matter.
