TBILISI. – Former Georgian President Eduard Shevardnadze warned that the incumbent President Mikhail Saakashvili may be engaged in a war against Iran to preserve his presidential seat.

“I do not rule out that Saakashvili may be engaged in a military campaign against Iran to preserve the seat, which will be a catastrophe for the state,” he said stressing the issue may be discussed between Saakashvili and his U.S. counterpart Barack Obama in Washington during their upcoming meeting, Gruziya Online reports.

Shevardnadze believes that it is important not to allow launching anti-Iranian campaign in the territory of Georgia.
