YEREVAN. – Although Azerbaijan is stating that the OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chairs are unsuccessful, the statement, which was adopted as a result of the meeting in Sochi, Russia, between the presidents of Armenia, Azerbaijan, and Russia—and with respect to the Karabakh conflict’s resolution—notes that the Co-Chairs have worked effectively, Armenia’s FM Edward Nalbandian stated during his interview with television stations.

“The meeting in Sochi was important and productive, and this was reflected on the statement, too. The presidents of Armenia and Azerbaijan expressed a hope that the three Co-Chairs would continue their efforts with the same format,” Nalbandian said.

“The statement recalled another provision on conducting an investigation into the incidents at the line of contact, and Azerbaijan exerted a great effort against it. The Azerbaijanis even threatened to veto the OSCE’s general budget,” Armenia’s FM stressed.

“Even if we reach an agreement on the fundamental principles, there is still much work to be done toward preparing the text of the actual agreement,” Edward Nalbandian noted.

And in regard to the holding of meetings, between the intellectuals of Armenia and Azerbaijan, toward strengthening mutual trust, Armenia’s FM stressed that such attempts were made before, but they did not yield a result. “The Azerbaijanis do not permit an Armenian-origin foreign citizen to visit their country. The propaganda that is directed against the Armenian people certainly does not contribute to the strengthening of a climate of trust. But the strengthening of trust is important for the peaceful settlement of the key issue. We need to prepare our peoples for peace, and not for war. But Azerbaijan is doing the opposite,” Edward Nalbandian concluded.
