YEREVAN. – Armenia’s President Serzh Sargsyan received Tuesday Ilkka Laitinen, Executive Director of FRONTEX (European Agency for the Management of Operational Cooperation at the External Borders of the Member States of the European Union). 

The interlocutors underscored the need to develop Armenia-EU cooperation. Considering the border management cooperation and border security as a modern-day issue for Armenia, President Sargsyan in this sense pointed to Ilkka Laitinen’s visit to the country. The President also stressed that infrastructure transformation, equipment upgrading, and personnel training will be conducted in the country, starting from the current year, and he expressed a hope that, with FRONTEX’s assistance, these activities would be completed with success, the President’s Office informed Armenian News-NEWS.am.            

In his turn, the FRONTEX Executive Director noted with delight that, within the framework of his visit to Armenia, an operational cooperation agreement will be signed between the National Security Council and FRONTEX.
