YEREVAN. – The World Bank’s US$ 80-million preferential loan, which was recently provided to Armenia, is a result of the Armenian Government’s effective socioeconomic policy, economist Karlen Khachatryan said during a press conference on Wednesday.

The loan will be used for reducing poverty, increasing certain social groups’ access to health care and educational services, and improving the business environment.

This loan is the third of its kind provided to Armenia after the global economic crisis.

As per Khachatryan, owing to the Government’s policy, a greater poverty level was avoided in the country, albeit the current level is at nearly 35 percent, as compared with 25 percent in 2008.
