YEREVAN. – The objective of the Armenian tournament was to reveal the best athletes to present the state in the Weightlifting Championship on Apr. 6-16 in Turkey, expert of Armenian Weightlifting Pashik Alaverdyan told Armenian News-NEWS.am.

Smbat Margaryan in the category of 62 kg became Armenia’s champion, while Aghasi Aghasyan (85kg) became a champion.

Over 30 women athletes performed in the local championship. Hripsime Khurshudyan did not perform due to injury, while Meline Daluzyan could not show high results again due to injury.

Alaverdyan believes that both will get back to the shape and present Armenia in the London Olympic Games. At the same time, no Armenian woman athlete will perform in the European Championship in Turkey.
