Armenian political party not yet decided on who to support – newspaper

Armenian political party not yet decided on who to support – newspaperFebruary 28, 2012 | 09:14

YEREVAN. – An interesting situation is created in Armenia’s Strong Motherland Party, which comprises Armenians from Javakhk (Georgian name: Javakheti, is an Armenian-populated part of Georgia’s southeastern Samtskhe-Javakheti province), Zhoghovurd daily writes.

“Strong Motherland’s Vice Chairman Stepan Margaryan recently announced on television about supporting [the ruling coalition’s Prosperous Armenia Party] PAP [in the upcoming parliamentary elections]. This fact is noteworthy because the other Vice Chairman, Shirak Torosyan, had become MP by the proportional [election] list of [the coalition’s Republican Party of Armenia] RPA and he supports this party. In an interview with Zhoghovurd, Torosyan noted that Margaryan carried out a joint program with PAP and the [PAP Chairman] Gagik Tsarukyan Foundation, and that he [Margaryan] had expressed his view as a citizen and as Chairman of the Javakhk Foundation. ‘But the [Strong Motherland] Party is still continuing the discussions on the upcoming elections, and we will decide in a foreseeable future as to whom to support,’ Torosyan said,” Zhoghovurd writes.
