YEREVAN. – Armenia’s opposition parties are against one-mandate candidates in regions as they do not have strong local candidates, Armenia’s Minister of Justice Hrair Tovmasyan announced in the parliament discussion on Tuesday on oppositional Heritage party’s initiative about the bill on moving to 100 per cent proportional system.

Another parliament party, ARF Dashnaktsutyun, also supports that bill.

“These parties gain votes due to a few famous figures. They are not able to provide enough candidates in the regions. They work by the ‘locomotive’ system, a few known people pull the rest,” the minister said.

According to him, violations during the elections do not depend on the system.

As ARF Dashnaktsutyun member Armen Rustamyan pointed out, all those political forces which are supported by the regions, suddenly disappear when the government changes.

“After that you still say they are elected through their own resources? Does an astronaut fly to Space by himself or with the help of a rocket?” Rustamyan said.
