YEREVAN. – German Ambassador Hans-Jochen Schmidt is confident that Armenia’s upcoming parliamentary elections will not be rigged. The Ambassador stated this to news reporters.

“[Armenia’s] Executive power numerously stressed that everything will be done so that the elections meet with international standards. So, let us try to have confidence toward the elections,” Schmidt said. As per the Ambassador, there will be a great number of international and local observers during the elections. “Let us have hope that the elections are good and fair.”

“What’s important for me is that the content issues be at the foreground during the elections. The primary matter is to improve the people’s social and other conditions; and to bring the economy to such structure that it can withstand the global challenges,” the German ambassador said and added: “Association talks and negotiations around the free trade agreement are underway with the European Union, and it is necessary for the [Armenian] Government to carry out reforms to successfully end the process.”
