PACE Co-rapporteurs on Armenia John Prescott and Axel Fischer repeated their call on ‘a credible public inquiry’ into the ten deaths that took place during the post-electoral events of March 2008.

They claimed that just criminal investigation has been run so far, and it was not the one meant by the co-rapporteurs. President Sargsyan was “open” to their suggestions, they said, and has requested work on a concept for a public hearing.

The co-rapporteurs also stated that the upcoming parliamentary elections scheduled for this May were “crucial for the consolidation of democracy in Armenia” and called on the contestants not to undermine unnecessarily public trust in the electoral process.
