YEREVAN. – Armenian opposition Heritage Party made a statement regarding Heritage candidate Styopa Safaryan’s campaign prevention in election district number 1. “The pre-election headquarter of Heritage MP candidate by the majority system Styopa Safaryan received information on Monday that his pre-election campaign in Avan District is prevented. Styopa Safaryan who arrived at the scene at 1.00 p.m. witnessed himself how a group of people was trying to prevent the campaign. A woman from RPA was collecting Styopa Safaryan’s and Heritage booklets even after she was warned. The MP himself saw the booklets in RPA’s pre-election headquarter. At around 2.00 p.m. around 30 RPA activists gathered at 3rd street and started chanting offenses against Styopa Safaryan. Styopa Safaryan reported to the police. Styopa Safaryan and his campaign members continued their campaign,” the statement read. Eight political parties and one block have presented their nominations – Republican Party of Armenian, Prosperous Armenia Party, Orinats Yerkir, opposition Armenian National Congress, opposition Heritage Party, ARF Dashnaktsutyun, the Communist Party of Armenia, Democratic Party of Armenia and United Armenians Party. For entering the National Assembly, parties must poll over 5% of votes, while blocks - over 7%. The election campaign will be held till May 5 - the day prior to elections when campaigning is banned. The parliamentary elections will be held from 8 am to 8 pm on May 6, 2012.
