French Foreign Minister Laurent Fabius touched upon the Armenian issue in an interview with Le Monde.

“As regards the Armenian issue, we must consider the decision of the Constitutional Council,” he said.

Fabius said it would not be easy to mend relations with Turkey in the context of the tension occurred due the bill criminalizing the Armenian Genocide denial. However, the French FM said they had good contacts with President Gul in Chicago.

Earlier newly elected French President Francois Hollande said he would also pass the bill.

“However, there are legal constraints. Anyway, it is important to resume relations with Turkey, which plays a major role, both economically and diplomatically, for example on the Syrian and Iranian issues,” Fabius said.
