MOSCOW. – Russian FM Sergey Lavrov compared the conflict in Syria with the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.

War is not a means to settle such conflicts, Lavrov stated at a briefing on June 9 dedicated to the Russian offer to call on a conference on regulating situation in Syria.

“I again repeat that the conference is not to predetermine parameters for political resolution but for the establishment of necessary conditions for the Syrians to deal with the issue by themselves and to push them always to the negotiation offers.

The Nagorno-Karabakh conflict can be reviewed as an example. OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chairs secure conditions, push the sides to seeking compromise but do not impose the decisions. This is how the sides must act in all cases, including situation over Syria,” Russian MFA’s official website quotes Lavrov
