YEREVAN. – The most negative option in the developments in Syria is the radical Islamists’ coming to power, Arab Studies specialist Armen Petrosyan and Islamic Studies specialist Sargis Grigoryan said during a press conference on Friday.

Grigoryan expressed a view that this will be a bad alternative, to put it mildly, for the local Armenian community.

“Syria’s society must realize that the radical Islamists’ coming to power will reflect negatively on the country’s progress, its future development,” stated Grigoryan.

In his turn, Armen Petrosyan noted that the Syrian opposition’s negative disposition toward the Armenians is not concealed in the national belonging, but rather in the opposition’s total hatred of all those who do not support them.

“There truly are threats against the Armenian community, but, fortunately, operations are not carried out,” said Petrosyan.
