YEREVAN.- Settlement of the Karabkah conflict is a priority issue for the European Union, head of European Council Herman Van Rompuy said at a joint press conference with the Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan.

He stressed that mutual confidence is necessary for the parties to resolve the conflict, noting that incidents along the line of contact are unacceptable.

The conflict must be solved only through peace talks. EU reiterates the statement recently made in Los Cabos by the head of the OSCE Minsk Group co-chairing states, he added.

According to Van Rompuy, the sides must respect ceasefire and refrain from militaristic rhetoric, while EU is ready to provide assistance based on its experience.
