French Foreign Minister Laurent Fabius demands that the UN Security Council should hold an urgent ministerial meeting as France takes over presidency starting from August 1.

According to him, the meeting must put an end to violence in Syria. During the weekend Francois Hollande also called on the UN Security Council to interfere into settlement of the Syrian conflict, Rossiyskaya gazeta reports.

In his turn, French Minister severely criticized Bashar Assad calling him “an executioner”, ITAR-TASS reports.

The battle for the second major city Aleppo continues in Syria. On Monday Syrian state-run media said the government forces managed to take control over Aleppo. The rebels are controlling the commercial center of the city but had been pushed out from other districts.
