Armenian authorities supported Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin’s idea to create a Eurasian economic union, said Premier Tigran Sargsyan.

According to him, creation of the union is a promising direction, Iterfax reports.

“We welcome creation of such forms of self-organization of states and will actively participate,” he added.

Russian Izvestiya newspaper published on October 3 Putin’s article dedicated to the creation of a Eurasian Union on the basis of the Customs Union of Russia, Belarus and Kazakhstan.

President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko called the publication “a real event”, while Georgian FM Grigol Vashadze said his country had “no desire or plans” to join the Customs Union, or Eurasian Union “created under the auspices of Russia”.
