YEREVAN. – According to Director Hrayr Galstyan of the Armenian National Center for Oncology, the number of illnesses with malignant tumor is continuing to grow in Armenia. And in parallel with this, the number deaths from this illness likewise is increasing, Haykakan Zhamanak daily writes.

“[A total of] 4,709 patients with malignant tumor were recorded in Armenia in 1997, but this number reached 7,750 in 2011.

In Galstyan’s words, this number is conditioned on the cases of an increase of the disease among 100 thousand residents, and not on the increase of applying [for medical treatment].

According to him, in the case when there were 129 [such] patients from among 100 thousand residents before, this [number] now has reached 239,” Haykakan Zhamanak writes.
