YEREVAN.- Hraparak newspaper wrote about much-discussed mayoral elections in Gyumri, Armenia’s second largest city.

The author believes incumbent Mayor Vardan Ghukasyan would follow President Sargsyan’s advice and would not participate in the elections.

“As reported earlier, Ghukasyan hoped that Russian leader Vladimir Putin would go to bat for him and Sargsyan would change his mind.

However, the Gyumri voting was not on the agenda of Putin-Sargsyan meeting held on Wednesday. Ghukasyan understood he cannot expect help from the north. Submission deadline expires today but the decision would hardly be changed,” the daily writes.
