YEREVAN. – The exchange rate of the US dollar will rise again in Armenia these several days, since the banks in the country did not carry out the Central Bank (CB) instruction of not creating a shortage of the dollar, Hraparak daily reported.

“The thing is that the bankers do not trust the CB, they are cautious thinking that the CB will not keep its promise and will not provide them the necessary quantity of foreign currency, if necessary.

“The banks [in Armenia] also have not carried out the other CB exhortation: providing dram [, the Armenian national currency,] loans to businesses, [and] freezing the dollar loan payment by the businesses. This will also become a reason for not only an increase in the exchange rate of the dollar, but the CB’s ‘pronounced’ attitude towards the banks, in this phase of enlarging the banks [in Armenia],” Hraparak wrote.

The dollar and euro exchange rates had reached record highs in Armenia on December 17 of the year past.
