YEREVAN. – They say during the heated pre-New Year days, when the exchange rate of the US dollar had reached its “peak” in Armenia, the country’s banks had dollar reserves, Irates De Facto newspaper reported.
“Even a specific number is noted: six million [dollars]; yet the bankers did not sell dollars.
“Moreover, this situation was very beneficial for some persons in charge of the [country’s] economic bloc, albeit they were the ones who complained the most from the speculative processes, before [President] Serzh Sargsyan got involved and instructed Deputy PM [and International Economic Integration and Reforms Minister] Vache Gabrielyan and CB [i.e., Central Bank] Chairman Arthur Javadyan to stop all this,” Irates De Facto wrote.
