YEREVAN. – Those at the corridors of the Government of Armenia have begun to speak about dividing the Ministry of Finance, Haykakan Zhamanak daily reported.

“There are rumors that not solely the State Revenues Committee needs to be removed from the Ministry of Finance, but the Tax and Customs [Services need to] be separated.

“The super Ministry of Finance was formed last year. The State Revenues Committee, which included the Tax Inspectorate and the Customs Service, was entered into the structure of the ministry, and Gagik Khachatryan was appointed minister.

“[But] now, many [people] are saying that this organization has caused an imbalance within the government. Now, the Ministry of Finance has become a government within a government.

“Gagik Khachatryan has gained so much leverage which Armenia’s any other official, except for the first official [i.e., the President], does not have,” Haykakan Zhamanak wrote.
