YEREVAN. – Overt discussions are underway, among the ruling Republican Party of Armenia (RPA) circles, as to who shall be the future chairman of the non-pro-government Prosperous Armenia Party (PAP), Haykakan Zhamanak daily reported.
“Our RPA sources claim that the option of [PAP MP and ex-FM Vartan] Oskanian and [PAP National Assembly (NA) Faction Secretary Naira] Zohrabyan is unacceptable for [President and RPA Chairman] Serzh Sargsyan.
“They say that PAP [NA] Faction MP Stepan Margaryan may appear in this position. He, however, is not even a PAP member at this time and is the vice-chairman of the Mighty Fatherland Party.
“CC [i.e. the Control Chamber] Chairman Ishkhan Zakaryan also is considered a PAP chairman candidate,” Haykakan Zhamanak wrote.
