YEREVAN. – The security risks and threats are expressed, first and foremost, by the Baku-provoked tension on the Armenian-Azerbaijani border, Zhamanak daily reported.

“It is no accident that US Assistant Secretary of State [for European and Eurasian Affairs] Victoria Nuland, at the [press] conference in Baku, stated that she wants to see Azerbaijan an independent state.

“At the same time, [Armenian President] Serzh Sargsyan, receiving Nuland in [capital city] Yerevan, said Yerevan attaches great importance to the role of the US in ensuring regional security and stability. Armenia truly has no other refuge than the US in this matter.

“The thing is that the tense situation is fraught with military escalation, which Russia awaits as an opportunity to allow military intervention in the region and establish supremacy by ‘martial law.’

“Armenia’s interests here are fully consistent with the interests of the [United] States, and on this matter, Washington is an invaluable and virtually irreplaceable partner for Yerevan,” Zhamanak wrote.
