YEREVAN. – Political prisoner Gevorg Manukyan told Zhoghovurd daily that the opposition Armenian National Congress (ANC) representatives are giving documents to people so they can be granted asylum in European countries, the daily reported.

“Especially, it is about the proxy certificates. That is, people, who in reality had nothing to do with the ANC during elections, are able to obtain a proxy certificate and present themselves to the migration services of the European countries with it, and be granted political asylum.

“Gevorg Manukyan told about such a case he knows. He also did not rule out the possibility that the document was not given just like that, but it was sold.

“Furthermore, many cases are known to Zhoghovurd when people who committed election fraud for the RPA [, the ruling Republican Party of Armenia,] were subsequently granted asylum in European countries as persecuted opposition [members],” Zhoghovurd wrote.
