YEREVAN. – One of the government’s legislative initiatives, which is put on the agenda of the special session of the National Assembly of Armenia, refers to making an amendment to the Law on State Debt, reported Zhamanak daily.

“Accordingly, the government proposes to replace the word ‘state debt’ in Sections 5, 6 and 7 of Article 5 of the law with the words ‘government debt,’ which will enable the government to do a hocus-pocus and divide the state debt into two parts: Government’s and Central Bank’s [CB].

“In this case, close to 500 million [US] dollars from our state debt will be written off, since it is the CB debt, which means the government debt will get smaller, and the opportunity will arise to get another 500 million[-dollar] loan in the future,” wrote Zhamanak.
